MEDLOCK PLACE, NEW CITY SUBDIVISION,
FORMALLY OPENS
One Home Near Completion And Four More Residences Now Under Construction
Hundreds of residents of Phoenix and vicinity will motor out North Central avenue
today to visit Medlock Place, a new high-class subdivision which is to be formally
opened for inspection under the direction of its promoter, Floyd W. Medlock, local
realtor.
The subdivision which consists of 25 acres divided into 47 lots each with a frontage
of 110 feet, is about one-eighth of a mile north of Camelback road, facing Central
avenue and extending west to North Third avenue.
No lots will be for sale today as Mr. Medlock's policy for Medlock place is to arrange
for the sale and construction of a home with each individual resident who desires
to settle in the subdivision.
One house in Medlock place is practically completed and four others are now under
construction. Mr. Medlock having proceeded with the development of the sub-division
[sic] to date without formal, public opening.
Two streets of exceptional width and graded with crushed granite have been laid out
through the subdivision, one known as Medlock Drive and the other as Colter street.
Mr. Medlock is especially anxious that prospective home-builders in this tract note
the 110-foot frontage of each lot, thus assuring plenty of ground between the houses
and allowing sufficient air space.
The houses now under construction savor of the English and semi-English type with
a high roof and either of brick and stucco. Only well-built and high-class homes
will be constructed in this latest subdivision and there are to be no frame dwellings.
The house which is practically completed offers its inhabitants a model electric
home as will all the residences to be built in the tract. It is equipped with the
most modern electrical features throughout and all the kitchen equipment for cooking
will be run by electricity. The work on the electrical features and the water mains
has been completed and dozens of Canary Island palms are being planted along Medlock
Drive to enhance its beauty.
Those who visit the tract today or throughout the coming week, will have an opportunity
to study the types of homes being erected there as the five now underway are all
at different stages of construction.
Hardwood floors are being laid in all the homes with built-in baths and tile bathroom
floors. The finish of the interior walls and other interior features will be left
in each case to the occupants. Mr. Medlock is doing the building himself and personally
promoting the entire development of the subdivision.
Electric Cooking Exhibit
Concrete posts with permanent light globes on top of them face Central avenue to
mark the entrances from that highway into Medlock Place. Mr. Medlock who has his
reality office at 145 North Second avenue is proceeding carefully and thoroughly
with the development of his subdivision and taking special care to see that only
the finest type of homes are constructed here. Before entering the reality field
he was in the cotton business here.
With the formal opening of Medlock Place today, the new sub-division [sic] will be
available for public inspection each day from now on.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon of this week from 1 until 4 o'clock,
Miss B. Edna Galvin, a nationally known home economist and a representative of Edison
Electric company, manufacturers of the Hotpoint products, will be at the "home
electric" in the Medlock Place to give talks on electric cooking and offer some
of her famous recipes.
